quick update

On Sunday, after church, I helped my friend Susan paint her daughter's bedroom purple and light green. We had fun painting and chatting. She's the lady who hosts our biweekly Bible Study. She's gonna babysit the kids whenever we are moving. She said they can sleep over or whatever is most convenient. Susan's youngest is one of Elaine's bestfriends.

On Monday, Jimmy noticed a pretty heavy duty coolant smell coming from our Van. When we looked, the coolant was pretty much flowing out of the van. Robert drove me to and from work on Wednesday, since the guys hadn't been able to locate the van's problem yet. They REALLY thought it was the water pump. (But my mom was right!) Steven drove up from Garland, TX and helped Robert and Jimmy fix the coolant leak. It turned out, it was just a leaking hose that was stuffed way back in a hard to reach location. It took 2 hours to get the broken hose out of the Van, and only about 10 minutes to replace the hose. :))  I made the guys all dinner to thank them for lending a hand. It only ended up being an $8 repair. Praise God.

Last night, I got a phonecall from the girls at work, freaking out. They thought Emily had accepted a fake $100 bill from a customer. They said that they money didn't have the magnetic strip thing and the font looked like a $20 bill, nothing like a normal $100. ("normal" $100 example below)

I told them to check with mall security or someone else who could tell them for sure, since I was talking to them over the phone and couldn't see for myself.
Turns out, none of my coworkers are old enough to have seen a $100 bill from 1983, way before magnetic strips and the EXTRA large Benjamin Franklin head. The money Emily accepted looked something like this example below. This style is familiar to me, up until I was in like high school.
We all laughed really hard at them, including our neighbors inside the mall, the Zales jewelers. The Zales sales associate was who broke the news to my coworkers that money from 1983, is in fact legal tender.

Rick and Regina are spending time with their grandson for 2 weeks. Last night we got a call from my coworker Jenna, at 11:30pm. She's house-sitting for Rick & Regina way out in the country. A snake was stuck to a sticky mouse trap in Regina's kitchen!! Jenna and her mom were flipping out! Jimmy and Robert rode out (it's just 10 minutes away) to save Jenna and her mom from a little 18" rat snake. Robert stepped on the snake and tossed it outside. Jenna could chill out. At work today, Jenna said she was scared that the snake would work it's way off of the mouse trap and climb up in the bed with her.

...Jimmy threw a rubber snake at her today.

Could be the place...

Our trailer landlords asked us to move out this fall. We've been looking for where to live next. This is the place at the top of our list, so far. We're still praying about it.

We'd love prayers to speed along our govt. housing assistance paperwork. Once the paperwork is processed, we'll know what we can afford this fall. We'll know if renting this house is a real option.

  • It's in a quiet neighborhood, just down the road from where my brother-in-law David use to rent a house. (For those of you who don't know Denton, it's between where we live now, and the store I work at).
  • 3 bedrooms -but the double-garage was converted into a spare "game room" (or formal dining room), and a separate laundry room.
  • Huge fenced-in back yard, with a storage shed. The yard is probably as large as Margaret's yard.
  • There are lots of trees shading the house, no windows on the side that would get direct sunlight, and ceiling fans throughout the house.
  • The entire inside just got a fresh coat of white paint.
  • New wooden flooring is being installed in most of the rooms.

Sunday's VBS Kickoff Party

Last week, Jenna and Codi picked up the kids and took them swimming at their pool. While they had the kids, they bought them each new swimsuits. Elaine wanted her first 2-peace swimsuit. It's a Tankini. Allan got cute boardshorts.

The next day, Codi and Jenna took the kids to the movies, to see 'Despicable Me'. They loved it. It's all they talked about for 2 days. They are still quoting it here and there.

Allan says the main character's minions looks like the cereal, 'Pops'. (see?)

Sunday afternoon, we all went to the kick off party for their next Vacation Bible School, at Regina's church. It was a waterslide party, so the new swimsuits were their outfit of choice.
(I had her wear white shorts with her new swimsuit). They're going to VBS every night this week.

After two slides down the slide, Allan's spikes mostly laid flat. Only one spike held up. He looked like a unicorn or Alfalfa! :)

Mohawk

I went to buzz Allan's hair all off, the other night.

Elaine: Give him a mohawk!!
Allan: Yeah, I want what she said.
Me: Are you sure?
Allan: Yeah. Rocker DUDE!

I decided I can let him have his fun and then even it out before school starts up.

Parade of Two

The kids wanted to make a parade for Independence Day. They made two laps around our house, taking turns with the flute and leading the way.

Allan led the parade on the fist lap, then Elaine led the second lap around our house.

He said, "March march march. Pose for Picture. March March march. Pose for picture." He'd stop for a second and smile, so I could snap photos. I didn't tell him to do that and it cracked me up!!

Girl Scout treats and Facepainting

Elaine was proud when she received her patches and awards for selling Girl Scout cookies.

VBS and other summer activities

The kids attended a VBS at Cooper Creek Baptist Church. It was western themed.

The first night, they painted bandannas with stamps. The next night, they decorated straw hats. Allan was so proud.

Elaine had Girl Scouts on Monday night, but got to go to the VBS the rest of the week. The kids kept dressing western all week for fun.

Jimmy took the kids to see scenes from 'The Lion The Witch and The Wardrobe', performed in the center of the mall last weekend. I painted Allan's face, at my work, before he went to the show. Tom (from Barnes & Noble) read to the kids and they had craft activities too.
