quick blog

quote of the day:
"my parents had me watch Lephrechan when I was 3, because they didn't know it was a scary movie. I've been scared of midgets ever since. ...can't even watch Willow or Ewoks." -Chris

A girl picked on me yesterday. She had a know-it-all vibe. Mario told the girl to help me round the statues for a half hour because the girl has some sculpting experience. She pointed out errors, which I can handle. But she said them in a MEAN way. She had a tone that along with her questiosns sounded like she thought I had NO talent whatsoever. She said:
"Didn't you say you're a Drawing minor?"
"So what classes are required to minor in Drawing?" (I list of a bunch of classes)
"Yeah, but how many of those have you actually completed?" (I tell her I only have one to go, that I've taken the required pre-reqs and then-some.)

Feeling petty and wanting to pull rank, I asked, "what year are yall" to her and a boy helping us. They were both only sophomores!! So by now, I've taken more college level art classes than she could have. I asked her if Theatre was her minor and she said "Yes, but this is my FIRST theatre class." LOL =I out-schooled the know-it-all with the bad attitude. She started saying she couldn't hear me through the respirator after that. LOL.

As a joke, Bazz and I gave the girl statue a thong made from tie-line (robe for tying electrics)... These statues have the magical power of turning everyone into 4th graders. We're ALL (including faculty) laughing about butts and such. Posted by Picasa

This is the "I've-Been-Carving-Styrofoam-NO-It's-NOT-Dandruff" look that's spreading through the scene shop. Posted by Picasa

I have to round off their faces a little. her cheeks are too pudgy (like jowels) and he looks too "darth vadar".... but otherwise the couple is good to go. Not bad progress in one day. Posted by Picasa

Me working yesterday Posted by Picasa

I shouldn't have a cellphone

Yall might as well here it from me.... I'm a clutz. Not a revelation for most of you, I'm sure. But it's true. If there is a way to get hurt I seem to find it. For example, last week I was wiping the countertops at home. I turned to look at the TV and cut my finger tip on the awl (rounded knife for chopping veggies) that Jimmy leaves deep on the counter. I'm always walking into open cabinet doors, falling off the bed, tripping, slipping and splating.
Anyways, two weeks ago Jim gave me the cellphone so I could call him when I was all done painting backdrops at school (the curtain-looking ones). When I went to find our phone, it wasnt' in my backpack. I hadn't actually seen it since inside our car that morning when I was putting it on silent. (Calling the phone wasn't doing any good because it was on silent). Luckily the next day a nice girl who found our phone in the grass on campus called Hope and we all planned for me to meet with the girl. So I got the phone back. Jim teased me endlessly.
This last Saturday night Jim gave me the phone again, so I could call him to set up my ride home for the night. He teased me about not loosing it again. *insert sarcastic LOL* So everything is going well. I carved on the statues, went to dinner with my bosses and then we started painting the stage. I had the cellphone in the pocket of my overalls. I leaned over to get more paint on my brush, and *PLOP*. The cellphone fell into an open gallon of paint!!! I reached in with both hands, grabbed the phone and ran into the sceneshop with it....dripping yellow paint all the way. Lindsay, Jamie and I were like surgeons over the phone trying to breathe life into it. They said first to get the battery out, because if the battery doesn't get wet the phone still has a chance. Mario (our techincal director) said to rinse the phone off and to blowdry it and hope for the best. The girls and I took the keypad off, rinsed the paint out, cleaned the screen, and tried putting the battery back in. Miraculously, the phone still worked...kinda. It'd light up and I could scroll through names and numbers, but when I tried to call Jimmy at work. His boss, who answered the phone, couldn't hear my voice. The mic was dead. By now the screen is going out (not lighting up any more) and I'm cleaning the outside of the phone with rubbing alcohol because it removes paint smudges. I even went at the phone with toothpicks to clean out all the little crevases. Slowly everyone else working that night left and I was still there. I didn't have the Ranchman's phone number because it was in the dead phone, so I couldn't call Jim from a payphone or anything. I tried walking to places on campus with public phones, hoping for a phonebook. But nowhere was open on a Friday night. Then the cellphone Beeped. Jimmy had left me a message that said he was leaving the restaraunt and he'd be picking me up in 20 minutes. I waited behind the theatre because I guessed it was the first place he would look for me. So I got home safe and thouroughly teased by Jimmy.
In the morning, the phone was lighting up again and we could retreave numbers and call out (we tried to call Hope) but she couldn't hear us. After church we went to replace the phone. We got the last one in-stock of our same model. It was $60 to replace it. Jimmy kept saying things like "don't loose this one or drop it in paint." So I was embarrassed and peeved at him. All is well now. Verizon was able to transfer over our entire address book to the new phone (because I cleaned it well enough) and we have the same number.
So I guess I need to either be more careful or befriend some carrier pigeons.

What's coming soon to a Theatre scene shop near you?

Tickets are on sale as of now, for the play I am working on, "Scapino!". Try the U.N.T. link from this blog to find ticket info, show dates, directions, etc.

I worked in the theatre until 7pm tonight and I'll be in the theatre LATE each night this week and weekend. I got out early tonight because my styrofoam wont arrive til tomorrow afternoon and my next job involves it. Today I designed a dolphin statue, planned it's execution and I drew my other statues at their full-size. I actually drew them too big and I'll have to adjust them tomorrow. :(
I'll post in-progress pics as much as I can.

Jim picked me up and we went to dinner at Ranchman's and to Krogers. Elaine grabbed some brown hairdye and told Jim it was for me. I was in a different eisle when this happened. He told her that Mommy likes Red hair dye. So he found me on the battery eisle and there was already hairdye in the shopping cart for me. I'd been meaning to get around to it (Jimmy was plucking greys out of my pigtails DURING church yesterday morning!).
